Why Loving Yourself Can be So Darn Scary

My mom said the most poignant thing to me the other day. We were talking about EFT and creating better lives for ourselves. She said when you love yourself fully you're finally taking complete responsibility for you. Through tapping (EFT) and meditation my mom has broken through several limiting core beliefs about herself. She told me that being a single parent and raising two kids seemed less intimidating than taking full responsibility for herself!

This was so enlightening to me. I never realized how much fear I have about taking responsibility for me…what if I let myself down? I never want to let anyone down, I’ve spent years trying to be the perfect friend, daughter, girlfriend, sister, employee, boss, customer, co-worker, and several other titles just because I didn’t want to let anyone down. Taking responsibility for me means honoring and loving myself. All these what-if’s started popping up when I took a closer look at my fear relating to loving myself. What if I’m not cut out for it? What if I can’t really love myself? How am I going to do this?
Whenever I’m faced with something that seems overwhelming or super scary I often make a list of things that help me feel more prepared. I came up with a few steps I’ve been taking along this journey of self-love. Step 1: being truthful about what I want and what makes me happy. Step 2: starting to overcome my fear, which tapping helps me with daily (sometimes hourly!) Step 3: believing I can do this. The believing part is crucial. You must believe that you can do this. Anything you want to accomplish and have in your life comes quickly when you believe it’s already yours. Step 4: acting like it is so. What would someone who loves themself and takes full responsibility for themself look like? Well, they’d probably say good things about themself, I imagine they smile a good bit, eat well (zero fast food), exercise (preferably yoga), create and experience things that bring joy, and surround themself with people that think they’re awesome.

I look back at all the things I’ve accomplished and I know if I can do all of that…I can do this too. I challenge you to look back at your life, you’ve done some pretty spectacular things I’m sure! Make a list of your top 10 accomplishments; shoot for 20 if it feels right. Believe in yourself and your ability to love yourself and take responsibility for you! Try meditation and EFT to shift your energy. Don’t forget to practice gratitude every day. I wake up each morning and say at least 10 things I’m grateful for. Gratitude automatically shifts your energy to a more loving place where anything is possible.
